IGNITE! KEYNOTE PRESENTERS: Margaret Wheatley and Jerry Granelli

Saturday evening  October 15,  “The Rhythms of Leadership”
In a lively and provocative combination of teaching (Meg) and movement (Jerry), we'll explore the nature of personal integrity and our capacity to persevere in these challenging times. Do we know the ground on which we stand, the reasons why we lead?  Do we recognize when we're at risk of losing our way, or getting involved in work that isn't meaningful or right for us?  What is our internal beat, the essence of who we are and who we want to be as leaders for this time?

Margaret Wheatley is a well-respected writer, speaker, and teacher   for how we can accomplish our work, sustain our relationships, and willingly step forward to serve in this troubling time. She has written five books: Perseverance (2010); Leadership and the New Science (18 languages and third edition; Turning to One Another: Simple Conversations to Restore Hope to the Future (7 languages and second edition); A Simpler Way (with Myron Rogers); and Finding Our Way: Leadership for an Uncertain Time (3 languages). She is co-founder and President emerita of The Berkana Institute, a charitable foundation that works in partnership with a rich diversity of people around the world who strengthen their communities by working with the wisdom and wealth already present in their people, traditions and environment (www.berkana.org). Her numerous articles appear in both professional and popular journals and may be downloaded free from her website: www.margaretwheatley.com . Wheatley received her doctorate in Organizational Behavior and Change from Harvard University, and a Masters in Media Ecology from New York University. She’s been an organizational consultant since 1973, a global citizen since her youth, a professor in two graduate business programs, and a happy mother and grandmother. In 2002, the American Society for Training and Development awarded her their highest honor and dubbed her a ‘living legend.’.

Jerry Granelli: Jazz Times magazine calls Granelli “one of those uncategorizable veteran percussionists who's done it all.” A commercially successful jazz drummer who played with Vince Guaraldi, he subsequently made a hard turn left into the world of improvisation and musical exploration. Granelli burns with an intensity fuelled by a passion for “the pursuit of the spirit of spontaneity which drives the player.” A veteran of the San Francisco jazz scene, Granelli's recent flourish of recordings has documented remarkable collaborations between the generations. In the early 90s Jerry moved to Halifax and immediately became a keystone in the jazz community. Along with Halifax’s Jazz East organization he founded the Creative Music Workshop a two-week intensive music program that takes place every summer in conjunction with the Atlantic Jazz Festival. He recently released his solo album 1313 to great acclaim.  www.jerrygranelli.com
